El Pájaro Community Development Corporation’s mission is to promote equal access to economic opportunities for under-served food-based entrepreneur residents in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito County. We offer an array of educational business trainings and provide consultations to aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Kitchen Incubator (KI) Assistant aids the Kitchen Manager in fulfilling El Pájaro CDC Kitchen Incubator program’s goals and objectives including helping to develop and launching entrepreneurs’ businesses ideas. The KI Assistant also supports the program through data collection, assisting with client retention and providing excellent customer service.
The KI Assistant performs housekeeping duties, janitorial work and participates in kitchen facility maintenance to provide a functioning work environment for the participating businesses, (including the Kitchen Incubator, Access to Market and Co-packing Line). The KI Assistant guides and supports our entrepreneurs and is responsible for serving as the on-site coordinator when the KI Manger is off site. This position reports directly to the Kitchen Manager and will work closely with CDC staff and Kitchen Clients. This position is located at our Kitchen Incubator facility in Watsonville.

Major Job Responsibilities:
The KI Assistant ensures that all equipment and the facility are kept clean and in excellent working condition through personal inspections and by following the facilities/equipment preventative maintenance programs.
The Assistant will follow all cleaning schedules, as well as keep cleaning supplies stocked throughout the building, manage inventory and show initiative to take on deep cleaning projects during slow times.
Other duties include reinforcing kitchen rules, policies and procedures with clients by conducting walkthroughs in production area when being in used by clients. The Assistant will fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the facility, employees and clients.
The KI Assistant will assist the Kitchen Manager in preparing paperwork, forms, billing invoices, reports and schedules, in an organized and timely manner.
This position will work closely with the Kitchen Manager to maintain above standard results from any inspections conducted in facility.
The Assistant will participate in other EPCDC programs such as Farmer’s Market and the Co-packing Line.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High-school graduate or equivalent with strong math skills, the ability to operate POS system, and sufficient computer skills.
- Must have basic knowledge of food handling guidelines, health and safety practices.
- Must have a current food-handlers card and be able to obtain a Servesafe Manager’s certification within 6 months of hire.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Must have experience and demonstrate skills in working with the public and in communicating in a culturally competent manner with an understanding of excellent customer service principles.
- Must be able to work on ‘call basis’ and on weekends when needed.
Salary Range and Benefits:
The range for this position is $14 to $20 per hour depending on experience. Full-time employees are eligible for our benefits package after successful completion of 90 days probationary period. Part-time employees working less than 30 hours per week are eligible for pro-rated vacation, sick leave and holidays.
