Click-in Computers

RochaEven when attending high school at Watsonville High, Sergio Rocha knew he wanted to start his own business. Mr. Rocha went to school in Santa Clara Technical Institute to study computer technology and immediately noticed the need for a computer store in his hometown of Watsonville. He came back to Watsonville and opened Click-In Computers in the Plaza Vigil. Mr. Rocha’s business offers computer repair and upgrades by skilled technicians, and sells desktop and laptop computers (new, used, and refurbished) to the Watsonville community. It is one of the few computer repair and sales shops in Watsonville, filling a gap in the business community.

At first, Mr. Rocha did not know where to start to open his business. He saw the need in Watsonville, but didn’t know how to fill it. After taking some business classes at Cabrillo College, and obtaining business training and technical support from El Pájaro CDC consultants, Mr. Rocha had a clearer picture. “It was helpful to have someone to guide me in starting my business. Having that information available is what got me to where I am right now.” Consultants at El Pájaro CDC helped Mr. Rocha understand the steps in the process of starting his business, and planning for the future.

Mr. Rocha has been pleased with the success of his business. “When I started I didn’t think there were so many people that needed computer services in Watsonville,” he said. He has customers coming in constantly asking about buying computers or getting upgrades to their old computers. He has seen a high demand in families with junior high and high school students who are required to learn and work with computers. Mr. Rocha is glad to offer such computer sales and repair to a population that is in high demand for such services.

Mr. Rocha feels that he has made a big change in his life since he opened the business. “The business has benefited me and my family,” he said. His parents came from Michoacán, México as agricultural workers. “My dad was always encouraging me to do something with my life and something that I enjoyed,” Mr. Rocha said. “I wanted to be my own boss, but at the same time I wanted the satisfaction to know that I was managing something, and doing something to give back to the community.”

Mr. Rocha plans on expanding his business to include other forms of technology and reach out to other business groups with computer support. “I hope to expand in the future and become the leading computer service provider here in the Watsonville area and in Santa Cruz County.”
